Ilene E. Dunbar
Ilene Dunbar obituary photoIlene E. Dunbar, age 82, of Huron, died Saturday, May 5, 2012, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.  Her service was at 11:30 AM Wednesday, May 9th at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Andrew Crandall and Rev. Barry Whipkey officiating.

Ilene E. Rundquist was born October 5, 1929, to Oscar and Jacobine Fisher Rundquist at Huron.  She attended school in Huron and graduated from Huron High School in 1947.

On March 27, 1949, Ilene married James D. Dunbar at the First United Methodist Church by Rev. O.E. Hessel.

Ilene worked for the USDA Soil Conservation Service for 27 years, retiring in 1986.  She enjoyed visiting with friends and spending time with family.  Ilene also liked gardening, reading, and playing the piano.  Ilene and Jim enjoyed fishing, attending local sporting and musical events, and playing bridge and cribbage together.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Charles.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband of 63 years, James of Huron; her son and daughter-in-law, David and Susanna Dunbar of Melissa, Texas; her daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Mark Kool of Fairfield, Iowa; and nine grandchildren, Hannah, Jason, Kyle, Sarah, Ruth, Elijah, Rebekah, Noah and Isaiah.

James Dunbar obituary photoJames Dunbar, age 85, of Huron, died Friday, February 14, 2014, at Avera McKenna Hospital at Sioux Falls.  His funeral service was at 11 AM Tuesday, February 18th, at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Andrew Crandall officiating.  Military honors were conducted by the Huron Veterans Council.  A private family burial was held at the Riverside Cemetery.

James Dixon Dunbar was born October 3, 1928, to O.D. and Ella (Black) Dunbar at Huron.  He was the fourth of four children and their only son.  Jim graduated from Huron High School in 1946, and later from Dunwoody Technical Institute.

Jim served in the United States Army in Japan after World War II, and was an electrical contractor and electrical inspector, residing in Huron for almost all of his years.

On March 27, 1949, Jim married Ilene Rundquist at Huron.

In years past, he was active in trapshooting, pheasant hunting, and even a little golf.  Jim was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the NRA, VFW, Huron Masonic Lodge, and the Huron Area Antique Power Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 63 years, Ilene who died May 5, 2012; and two sisters, Jean and Betty.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his son and daughter-in-law, David and Susanna Dunbar of McKinney, Texas; his daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Mark Kool of Fairfield, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Hannah, Jason, Kyle, Sarah, Ruth, Elijah, Rebekah, Noah, and Isaiah; and one sister, Dorothea McGhee of Walnut Creek, California.
